Give or take a million
I saw this on the local news and thought it was very funny. A couple won a lottery of about $160 million (alone). The county they live in was going to block the prize until the couple paid the county $1 million for something like stealing money from a charity (homeless shelter, I think). The news shot showed the couple yelling and screaming “Liars, liars, we never did anything wrong and we will not pay the 1 million. We will fight this!”
OK this is just me. But if I won $80 million (after taxes), I am now so rich that I don’t care that Uncle Sam just took away $80 million in taxes. I also don’t care if some stupid county wants another million of it. I still have $79 million! Yes, to clear my name, I would still fight it, but only after getting my hands on the $79 million. On second thought,I would probably be so happy that, I really woudn’t care to much about my “good name” anymore.

Roughly one-third of lottery winners find themselves in serious financial trouble or bankrupt within five years of turning in their lucky numbers, according to Chelmsford wealth counselor Szifra Birke. http://www.eagletribune.com/punews/local_story_301015837.html
I have no doubt that these two jacka$$es will find out themselves in similar company as William “Bud” Post who won $16.2 million in the Pennsylvania lottery in 1988 but now lives on his Social Security. Post admitted he was both careless and foolish, trying to please his family. He eventually declared bankruptcy. Now he lives quietly on $450 a month and food stamps. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/SavingandDebt/SaveMoney/8lotteryWinnersWhoLostTheirMillions.aspx
If there is any justice in the world, Richard and Mary Morrison will end up in a homeless shelter. Never mess with Karma – it always wins.
